Workers' Benefits: Veterinary Emergency Response Team
A member of a veterinary emergency response team will be considered an employee of the state and will not be held legally responsible for damage to property or personal injuries. They are entitled to workers' compensation if they are injured or killed while performing their duties.
Veterinary emergency preparedness and response
a. A registered member of an emergency response team who acts under the authority of the secretary shall be considered an employee of the state for purposes of defending a claim on account of damage to or loss of property or on account of personal injury or death under chapter 669. The registered member shall be afforded protection under section 669.21. The registered member shall also be considered an employee of the state for purposes of disability, workers’ compensation, and death benefits under chapter 85.
